Senior Thermal Engineer
Port Angeles, WA - Full-Time
The Sr. Engineer will have an in-depth knowledge of thermal simulation software, and have hands-on experience of thermal testing techniques. He/she will perform design, development and analysis tasks on complex mechanical hardware, including precision structures and mechanisms, electro-mechanical hardware, opto-mechanical, sensor applications, and complex electronic packaging in a program team environment. Position includes program support and technical leadership over requirements definition and compliance verification, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing.
Responsibilities
- Perform design development and analysis tasks on complex mechanical hardware, including precision structures and mechanisms, electro-mechanical hardware, opto-mechanical, sensor applications, and complex electronic packaging in a program team environment.
- Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition and compliance verification, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering discipline with 10+ years of experience, or equivalent.
- Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering discipline with 8+ years of experience of experience.
- Experience in design and analysis of optical IR sensing cooling technologies, mechanical structures, electronics packaging and mechanisms.
- Good technical presentation and technical writing proficiency.
- Ability to derive subsystem requirements, write subsystem and module specification and provide technical direction to teams and subcontractors.
- Good working knowledge of:
- Requirements Management (DOORs)
- Thermal analysis tools; NIST REFPROP
- Materials and coatings
- Contamination control
- EVMS management
- Strong proficiency in thermal design and analysis using NIST-REFPROP, Solidworks 2017, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling, or equivalent software
- Must have thermal management experience including cryogenic cooling using Vapor Cycle passive and active technologies
- Ability to work independently, lead a technical team, and contribute in a multi-disciplined team environment.
Clearance Requirement
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance if requested.
